Abstract This study presents soft computing artificial neural network (ANN) technique for predicting the shelf life of kalakand stored at 6 oC. ANN feedforward single layer model was developed for determining the prediction potential of soft computing technique. The number of neurons varied from 3 to 30. Mean square error (MSE), root mean square error (RMSE) and coefficient of determination (R2) were used as prediction performance measures. Results showed a 5-28-1 topology with Bayesian regularization algorithm was able to predict the shelf life of the product with R2 0.985150986. The corresponding MSE for this topology was 0.001236328 and RMSE 0.001236328.
