Title Critical Evaluation of the Policy Environmental for Mineral Resources Sector in Pakistan
Authors Sohail, Muhammad Tayyab
Abstract Despite Pakistan’s abundant mineral resources and two successive mineral policies, the sector’s contribution to national GDP remains small. Evaluation of the policies and administration framework for management of the sector reveals some factors such; as inadequate monitoring and evaluation, lack of community base resources management programmes and insufficient tax adherence systems inter alia. However, there is still room for more technical and economic analysis of the sector and tremendous opportunities for Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) with other emerging economies and international private partners. New discoveries, of precious metals and rare earth minerals provide sufficient grounds for modification of the current policy along with insufficient technical information on reserves, holds opportunities for reinvestment and expansion of the industry. There is still time to realise the national development benefits from the sector.
