Title Effect of Nacl Salinity on Growth, Nodulation and Total Nitrogen in Sesbania grandiflora
Authors Dhanapackiam, S.; Ilyas, M. H. Muhammad
Abstract A pot experiment was conducted to determine the effect of NaCl salinity on growth, nodulation and nitrogen content in Sesbania grandiflora. Fifteen day-old seedlings grown in sandy loamy soil were irrigated with NaCl solution of 10mM, 20mM, 30mM 40mM and 50mM. The plants were sampled after 50 days. Fresh and dry weights of roots and leaves decrease progressively with the increasing salinity levels. Roots were more inhibition than leaves. Nodules were found on the roots of all the plants growing in salinity. However, the number and size of the nodules per plant and their fresh and dry weight decreased with increasing salinity levels. The tissue nitrogen content also decreased progressively with the increasing salinity levels.
