Title Using the Theory of Planned Behavior to Investigate the Determinants of Environmental Behavior among Youth
Authors Niaura, Andrius
Abstract Previous studies have pointed out the importance to investigate the determinants of environmental knowledge, attitudes, and behavior among youth. In the present article, the Theory of Planned Behavior is used to examine the gap between the environmental attitudes and the actual behavior of young people. A survey was conducted online among the respondents aged 17-36 (in total 459). The results of this study showed the relationship between the respondents’ behavior and intentions which was twice as strong as the relationship between their behavior and attitudes (r=0.4 and 0.21, p<0.05). The analysis of data also revealed that social pressure had less impact on youth’s behavioral intentions in comparison to perceived behavioral control (r=0.22 and 0.36, p<0.001).  DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5755/j01.erem.63.1.2901
