Title QoS Routing with Bandwidth and Hop-Count Consideration: A Performance Perspective
Authors Peng, Bo; Kemp, Andrew H.; Boussakta, Said
Abstract QoS Routing has been studied to provide evidence that it can increase network utilization compared to routing that is insensitive to QoS traffic requirements. However, because of its complexity, QoS routing is still the missing piece in a fully-fledged QoS architecture for the Internet. This paper exposes in detail the relationship between the routing algorithm and network condition (traffic load and the scale of the network topology) in different scenarios. We demonstrate that network size affects the performance, and give evaluation of different locations of source-destination pairs. We also point out the importance of using length of route as a metric to evaluate algorithms. This has seldom been used in previous simulation studies. This work confirms and extends earlier studies, and offers new insights for designing efficient QoS routing algorithms for future largescale networks.
