Abstract | Multi-scale geometrical and topological analysesof point clouds can reveal their rich structures. Becauseconformal alpha shapes of point clouds are hierarchicalshapes under different mesh resolution or internal alphavalues, their surface curvature estimations are one of themulti-scale geometrical analyses. We present a robustmethod for computing surface curvature of conformal alphashapes on point cloud data, and provide theoreticalguarantees on the robustness of our method. An approach isproposed to estimate the internal alpha scale parameters.The methods can be used to extract local curvatures ofhierarchical shapes and as a multi-scale geometrical analysismethod of point clouds. It is useful in many applicationsranging from bio-geometric modeling to surfacereconstruction. We describe an implementation of thealgorithm and show example outputs. |
